Subject: Mediocre Recording, Average Show
Just as the recording of the band playing in Sydney a week earlier is the only circulating document of the Australian leg of the Siamese Dream tour, this recording of the band in Tokyo is the only circulating document from the Japanese leg of the tour. And similar to the Sydney show, this show in Tokyo is also not much to write home about. The sound is on the lower side of average, but still perfectly listenable. The band play well, but only to the point of performing standard runthroughs of all of the familiar songs. They again omit I Am One from the set, just like at Sydney, however they do give the Japanese a full set list, including a performance of Starla in addition to the standard SD songs. Of the tracks, Siva is a good version, as are Bury Me, Spaceboy, and the intro to Silverfuck (whereas Silverfuck itself is a fairly routine performance from start to finish).
There is enthusiastic reaction from the Japanese crowd, and James even speaks some Japanese to them just before Bury Me, so the rapport is good. Nevertheless, beyond the banter, not much else makes this show stick out when compared to some of the better recorded and performed gigs from this era.
